Opening in June 2014, the elegant INNSIDE business hotel provides Wolfsburg with a new urban lifestyle location and a therefore a new hot spot right in the heart of the city. With its exclusive facilities and location, the 4-star superior hotel owned by the Spanish Melià Group not only makes an ideal starting point for exploring the city, it is also the perfect base for discerning business guests. Five conference rooms offering flexible combination options make it ideal for meetings. PURLINE flooring from Windmöller was selected for almost 2,000 square metres of surface area in the heavily frequented corridors.
The designs by architect Sergei Tchopan (nps tchopan voss Architekten, HH) incorporate a semi-public glass hall on the ground floor, fitting in with the surrounding urban space. The hotel above has 219 rooms and suites on six floors, with first-class furnishings and fittings and clear views of the surrounding sites in this city, which was a planned urban development.
The architect also incorporated the connection with the history of its development and with the VW factory in his design of the interior public areas. The walls of the corridors are covered with full height photos from the Volkswagen era. The expressive effect of the black and white photos is emphasized by reducing the colour scheme to black and white for walls, doors and floors.
When it came to choosing the flooring for the corridors, the architect and operator went for robust, easy-care, permanently elastic flooring, which also enhances the room acoustics and is from the wineo® PURLINE organic flooring collection made by Windmöller.
1,780 square metres of floor space was fitted with PURLINE in the XL 1000 x 500 mm plank format in a combination of decors. The Puro Snow design was used for the central walking route and the Puro Carbon for the surrounding area.
The polyurethane flooring made from renewable raw materials and natural fillers (castor oil, chalk etc.) is easy to clean and is free from plasticisers, solvents and chlorine compounds. It fulfils the EN 13501-1 fire protection standard (= Cfl-si flame-retardant) and produces no toxic gases and hardly any smoke in the event of a fire – so escape routes remain visible in an emergency.
Resistant, easy-care, cost-effective over the long term
PURLINE not only has an environmentally friendly product composition, it is also sustainable throughout its entire service life. The PU surface is resistant to dirt and chemicals and can be maintained using a standard PU cleaner.
PURLINE’s closed surface is easy, fast and hygienic to clean, which ensures savings in staff and cleaning costs. According to a study by the Pfiff Institute (see http://www.wineo.de/sortiment/purline-bioboden/lebensdauer-kosten-analyse), PURLINE allows savings of up to 30 percent compared with other kinds of permanently elastic flooring, which makes this organic flooring exceptionally economical and practical for use in very heavily frequented areas and surfaces such as hospitals, department stores, schools, airports and other public buildings.
The thermosetting properties of its materials make it resilient and also ensure that traces of indentations will regenerate by almost 100 percent in a short space of time and heavy furniture (cupboards, beds etc.) will leave no lasting marks on the surface.
PURLINE by wineo® is available in rolled or tile format and in two modern plank formats, as well as in various surfaces (slate, wood, pearl structures). There are a total of 87 designs to choose from in plain and fantasy decors, as well as authentic wood and stone decors. The designs are adapted to suit the format and therefore guarantee perfect interior design. In addition, the flooring can be ordered as PURLINE digital organic flooring in the customer’s own design, giving architects and interior designers the greatest possible design freedom, with the highest requirements in terms of quality and sustainability.
In spite of its minimal thickness of 2.5 mm, PURLINE is based on a finely-tuned multilayer system made up of a PU top layer, the decor paper, a stabilising glass fibre reinforcement and the PU base layer. The underside is laminated with a fleece TEC system in an elaborate process, which makes the floor particularly light and convenient.
Certification & awards
PURLINE is manufactured in Germany and has been approved for construction by the DIBT (“Ü” rating) and has many internationally recognised environmental labels and certifications, e.g. Blauer Engel, GreenGuard Gold, EPD, the German TFI-TÜV Proficert certification, the Finnish M1 label for building material, the Danish Indoor Climate Label and the French A+ certificate. PURLINE has also been awarded many prestigious international design prizes by architects: these include the raumPROBE material prize in the Ecology category, the Interior Innovation Award 2014 and the “Best of Best” Iconic Award 2014. Its wave of success in award ceremonies continued at the beginning of 2015 with PURLINE digital winning the prestigious Interior Innovation Award 2015 from the German Design Council.
