A healthy, homely atmosphere for the classroom. It is a school building that meets the latest standards: in September 2019, the pupils of the August Hermann Francke Primary School in Detmold moved into the modern new building. Four classes per year group are taught there. It’s easy to imagine what goes on every weekday when 500 children dash through the corridors and spread out across 16 classrooms.

wineo PURLINE creates a homely atmosphere in these rooms, each measuring 60 square metres. With its light wood finishes, it creates a welcoming ambience. “It was particularly important to the planners to have a floor covering that was homely, yet also hard-wearing and sustainable,” explains Michael Mües, wineo Key Account Manager.

Visually, PURLINE resembles naturally grown wood. The base material is the composite material ecuran. It offers all the benefits of permanently elastic flooring, but consists predominantly of vegetable oils such as rapeseed or castor oil and naturally occurring mineral components such as chalk – without the addition of chlorine, plasticisers or solvents. Children can run and play on this flooring without leaving any significant marks. The material also performs well in terms of impact and footfall noise levels. With its R10 slip resistance rating, the flooring also minimises the risk of children falling and injuring themselves.

The school’s cleaning staff have something to look forward to as well. The PURLINE is easy to clean and not prone to staining. No coating or maintenance is required once the floor has been laid. For routine cleaning, simply wipe the surface with a damp cloth. Only in cases of heavy soiling is it necessary to add a PU cleaner to the water. All in all, this saves a lot of work, making the material cost-effective over its entire lifespan. This was also confirmed by an analysis carried out by the Pfiff Institute for Applied Building Cleaning Technology.

The PURLINE organic flooring wineo 1500 wood XL in the special ‘Ascona Pine Nature’ finish was installed across just under 5,000 square metres. This light shade can be found in the 16 classrooms as well as in the administration offices, corridors and assembly hall. The honey-yellow shade ‘Canyon Oak Honey’ was used across approximately 1,000 square metres in the playrooms and gyms. In other areas, the dark brown ‘Village Oak Brown’ variant was used.

When adults look back on their school days today, they often still have the smell of the building in their nostrils. “The children at August-Hermann-Francke Primary School won’t have that experience,” Michael Mües is certain. This is because the flooring is completely odourless. “With all these benefits, PURLINE organic flooring offers the ideal conditions for creating a learning environment in which children feel at ease.”
