An urban interior above the rooftops of Stuttgart: a dentist prioritises the holistic wellbeing of his patients and opts for healthy flooring. With his own dental practice, Dr Stefan Hieber wanted to create a place where patients could feel at ease right from the start. And the design-loving dentist has succeeded in doing just that. Kokon_18 – even the name of the practice in Stuttgart city centre conveys a sense of safety and security. The concept is complemented by a modern and urban interior that, on the one hand, captures the trendy character of the Swabian metropolis and, on the other, exudes a pleasant and calming atmosphere. The flooring plays a major role in the overall effect of the rooms.

“It’s not just about the look, but also about the feel. How does it feel when I walk on it?” says architect Steffen Bucher from the Stuttgart-based architectural practice 12:43, which was commissioned to design the premises. “Our clients often already have clear ideas, particularly when it comes to the flooring.” Dr Stefan Hieber wanted a concrete-look floor for his practice that would reflect the urban flair and could be combined with various materials. The architects recommended Purline wineo 1500 in the ‘chip silver grey’ finish. “We discovered Purline in response to the enormous demand for concrete-look flooring. This allowed us to meet this demand for mineral-look flooring without imitating the material exactly – whilst still fulfilling all hygiene requirements,” explains Steffen Bucher.

With its subtle decorative texture, the wineo 1500 silver grey roll flooring brings the urban feel of concrete into the dental practice’s premises. The neutral grey tone provides the perfect backdrop for a personalised interior. All materials were carefully selected to capture that trendy big-city vibe. The eye-catching mix of different colours, shapes and surfaces immediately catches the eye: in the waiting room, for instance, soft armchairs, rugs and curtains are paired with minimalist plastic chairs.

At the same time, Purline proves to be highly hygienic and functional: the flooring is easy to clean and offers excellent resistance to RKI/VAH-listed disinfectants. All seams have been welded to create a hygienic, seamless surface. Further advantages include the flooring’s high durability and resilience: it withstands heavy loads and, in addition to excellent indentation resistance of ~0.10 mm, offers outstanding recovery properties.

Purline is a resilient, PVC-free polyurethane floor covering. It is based on ecuran, a high-performance composite material produced predominantly from vegetable oils such as rapeseed or castor oil and naturally occurring mineral components such as chalk – without the addition of chlorine, plasticisers or solvents. The material does not release any harmful substances into the indoor air and is completely odourless. Its sustainability is backed by various environmental labels and certifications, such as the Blue Angel and the Cradle to Cradle Silver certificate, which recognises the flooring as particularly sustainable. Every stage of production is ‘made in Germany’.
