Project description
At the Oelde Intergenerational Park: a space for all age groups. At the Oelde Intergenerational Park in the Münsterland region, socialising is a top priority. The aim here is for young and old, big and small, residents, staff and guests alike to feel equally at home. It comprises three buildings: a care home with 80 residential care places, day care and short-term care facilities, and a café-restaurant open to the public; a residential block for senior citizens with 18 accessible flats; and the ‘Nimmerland’ nursery, where up to 80 children play every day. Three areas that place high and varied demands on the interior design. The foundation is provided by wineo flooring, which covers more than 4,000 m² throughout the entire building complex.
“When selecting the materials, the environmental footprint played a key role alongside functionality and aesthetics,” explains Marc Baumann, Managing Director of the investor First Retail Consult GmbH. The care home meets the KfW Efficiency House 40 Plus standard, whilst the nursery has been built to the Efficiency House 55 standard. In keeping with this, the interior design was also intended to be as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible. “Together with the two operating organisations, Carpe Diem and the German Red Cross (DRK), we developed a holistic design concept based on these specifications. We focused on three aspects: comfort, Scandinavian-inspired furnishings and natural colour tones. These run like a common thread through the entire building complex.”
The floor coverings are of particular importance here: they ensure a consistent look throughout all three buildings and create a cosy, healthy living environment. The living and communal areas, as well as the group rooms in the nursery, have been fitted with Purline wineo 1500 wood XL in the ‘Fashion Oak Grey’ and ‘Fashion Oak Natural’ finishes. With their natural wood look, the long planks lend the rooms a homely character and provide the perfect backdrop for the Scandi chic style. “Not only do the planks look very authentic, they can also be replaced quickly should any damage occur,” says Marc Baumann. In the nursery’s multi-purpose room, the wineo 1500 roll flooring in a cheerful Apple Green creates a cheerful atmosphere.
“Various environmental labels and certifications provide assurance. Purline Bioboden not only bears the Blue Angel label, but also the Cradle to Cradle Silver certificate, which designates the flooring as particularly sustainable,” reports Baumann. As sustainable products played a key role in the selection process, the decision was made to opt for Purline. This is a resilient polyurethane floor covering. It is based on the high-performance composite material ecuran, produced predominantly from vegetable oils such as rapeseed or castor oil and naturally occurring mineral components such as chalk – without the addition of chlorine, plasticisers or solvents. The material does not release any harmful substances into the indoor air and is completely odourless.
Every stage of production is ‘made in Germany’, which guarantees short delivery routes and rapid problem-solving. ‘We have been working with Windmöller for over ten years. We are happy to meet with our customers and partners directly at the wineo showroom in Augustdorf. This saves time and money.’
In the care sector, wineo 800 Wood in the Salt Lake Oak finish is also used – a high-quality, phthalate-free design flooring.
Whether planks or rolls, whether sustainable flooring or design flooring: In terms of functionality, all wineo floor coverings impress: they are hard-wearing, abrasion-resistant and can effortlessly withstand heavy footfall without showing signs of wear. The soft, elastic surface is gentle on the joints and effectively absorbs impact noise. Thanks to their smooth surface, wheelchairs and pushchairs can also be manoeuvred easily across the floors. “What’s more, wineo floor coverings ensure perfect heat distribution with underfloor heating, which has been installed in all three buildings,” explains Marc Baumann. Another advantage is that they are easy to clean and maintain. This means the material proves to be cost-effective over its entire lifespan. This was also confirmed by an analysis carried out by the Pfiff Institute for Applied Building Cleaning Technology.
