‘Fit for the Future’ Learning Workshop, Stuttgart-Weilimdorf

The ‘Fit for the Future’ Learning Workshop is creating an innovative educational centre in Stuttgart-Weilimdorf for young refugees aged between 11 and 14 who have little or no previous schooling. The aim of the project is to create a safe, supportive environment that offers these young people guidance, stability and prospects – and makes their transition into the German school system easier.

Particularly noteworthy is the collaboration between the public sector and the private sector: the company Vector Informatik is not only providing office space rent-free but is also taking charge of the planning and refurbishment – an initiative that is unique in Baden-Württemberg to date.

The learning workshop’s educational spatial concept combines clear structures with emotional warmth. Natural materials, zoned learning areas, varied quiet spaces and a creatively stimulating ‘centre’ create an atmosphere that promotes both concentration and social interaction.

A key focus of the project is environmental sustainability: rather than building from scratch, an existing office building is being repurposed in a resource-efficient manner. Existing furniture from Vector’s stock is being put to new use, as are eco-friendly materials in the interior fit-out – including PURLINE, the high-performance flooring from wineo.

PURLINE – The ideal flooring solution for the education sector

PURLINE is used in the learning workshop – a highly durable, permanently elastic floor covering.

It is made from natural, renewable raw materials such as rapeseed and castor oil, as well as mineral components, and contains no added chlorine, plasticisers or solvents. It therefore meets the highest standards of environmental sustainability and health safety – a crucial factor in an educational setting where young people learn, play and move around for many hours each day.

Furthermore, PURLINE is particularly well-suited for use in educational settings: its high durability makes it ideal for high-traffic areas such as corridors, group rooms and classrooms. The resilient surface ensures a comfortable walking experience, has a sound-absorbing effect and thus contributes to a quiet, focused learning atmosphere. The material’s ease of maintenance significantly reduces the daily cleaning workload, saving both time and resources during day-to-day operations. At the same time, the surface remains visually appealing for many years – a further contribution to sustainability and the preservation of the facility’s value.

By choosing PURLINE, the Lernwerkstatt demonstrates that educational quality and environmental responsibility are not mutually exclusive, but can complement one another effectively. Here, the floor is seen not merely as a functional surface, but as an integral part of a forward-looking learning environment – a place where inclusion, education and sustainability go hand in hand.

Natural. Functional. Effective – design in harmony with the concept

The holistic concept of the Lernwerkstatt is also reflected in the design of the rooms. Through the use of three selected designs from the PURLINE wineo 1500 collection, a flooring scheme has been created that lends the space a pleasant atmosphere. In total, around 1,320 m² of floor space has been fitted with the bio-based high-performance flooring.

Den Hauptanteil bildet das Dekor Melange, das auf 1.080 m² Fläche verlegt wurde. Mit seiner warmen, naturnahen Anmutung in einem sandbeigen Farbton vermittelt es Ruhe und Bodenständigkeit – eine wichtige Grundlage für konzentriertes Lernen. Melange wirkt zurückhaltend, aber nicht kühl, und fügt sich harmonisch in das nachhaltige Materialkonzept der Lernwerkstatt ein. 

Für gezielte Akzente und zonierende Gestaltungselemente wurden zusätzlich zwei farbintensivere Dekore eingesetzt: Springtime Orange (120 m²) bringt mit seinem hellen, frischen Orangeton eine lebendige, motivierende Energie in bestimmte Bereiche, während Rust Brown (120 m²) mit seinem erdigen, warmroten Farbspiel Tiefe und Struktur erzeugt. Diese Farbnuancen dienen nicht nur der optischen Belebung, sondern auch der funktionalen Orientierung innerhalb der Räume – sie markieren Treffpunkte, Rückzugszonen oder bestimmte Lerninseln auf subtile, aber wirkungsvolle Weise.
