Project description
Once the requirements that a new floor covering must meet have been defined, it quickly becomes apparent – despite the wide variety of floor coverings available on the market – that the choice of the perfectly suitable option is reduced to just a few. This was demonstrated by the refurbishment project at a small animal practice in the Münsterland region, which had demanding but by no means unusual requirements. The senior vet at the Hartmann Small Animal Clinic, situated on a former farm, wanted a consistently pure white look for the new fit-out of the treatment and waiting rooms – both for the interior and the flooring. All the specifications regarding the durability of the new floor were based on the clinic’s day-to-day operations.
In the end, there was only one option: Purline from wineo
The task for the floor fitter was to replace the existing old tiled floor. To determine which product best met the requirements, numerous tests were carried out using different flooring materials. Tests included, for example, resistance to stains from bodily fluids and medicines, cleaning properties, scratch resistance (e.g. against animal claws) and, finally, susceptibility to indentations. At the end of the client’s rigorous selection process, only one flooring option remained that met all the criteria: Purline – the resilient flooring from wineo, which is based on natural raw materials. With an installation height of just 2.5 mm, it is particularly suitable for refurbishment projects, extremely hard-wearing (NK 43), suitable for damp areas and easy to maintain; it met the vet’s exact requirements, and she selected the Cosmic White design from the Purline Residenz collection for the floor area (220 square metres) to be refurbished.
Wear-resistant, durable, cost-effective
Purline is a resilient polyurethane floor covering made from the finest natural ingredients. It is based on ecuran, a specially developed high-performance composite material consisting predominantly of vegetable oils such as rapeseed or castor oil and naturally occurring mineral components such as chalk. Vegetable oils replace a large proportion of the petrochemical polyols in the polyurethane formulation. 100% made in East Westphalia, without the addition of chlorine, plasticisers or solvents.
The flooring does not release any harmful substances into the indoor air; it is odourless, quiet and gentle on the joints, antistatic and chemical-resistant, making it ideally suited for use in everyday hospital settings, where high standards of cleanliness and ease of cleaning and maintenance are essential, even under the heaviest use.
Thanks to the material’s inherent resilience, the thermosetting polyurethane material ensures that no permanent indentations can form on its surface, such as those caused by point loads from heavy objects like cupboards. The organic flooring reduces impact noise and, with an R 9 rating, is highly slip-resistant. It is also flame-retardant and poses no fire-related health risks.
Easy to refurbish and low-maintenance
Following thorough substrate preparation, the Purline roll flooring was fully bonded to the old tiled substrate in the veterinary clinic using a standard, solvent-free emulsion adhesive. The joints were welded using colour-matched fusion wires made from environmentally friendly PU material, thereby permanently sealing them. Pre-fabricated upstands and external corners ensure perfect wall finishes. Once laid, Purline requires no initial treatment of the floor surface, and a standard PU cleaner is used for its cleaning and maintenance.
Tested and award-winning ‘Made in Germany’ quality
Its outstanding environmental performance is confirmed by various eco-labels such as the Blue Angel, TÜV ProfiCert and Greenguard certification. Purline also holds the Cradle to Cradle certificate, which designates it as particularly sustainable. As a member of the Sustainable Castor Association, the family-run company Windmöller is also committed to the sustainable cultivation of the castor oil plant. The PFIFF Institute confirms an average lifetime cost saving of 30 per cent compared with all standard floor coverings on the market.
